Dual-use technology for resilient mobility: an unmanned, modular, hydrogen-powered platform designed for industrial reconversion.
TechDual is a dual-use technology project for resilient mobility, focused on the development of technologies with applications in both civilian environments and high-demand strategic contexts. Its main objective is to foster more resilient mobility while promoting intelligent industrial diversification and reconversion. In this way, the project helps strengthen the competitiveness and strategic autonomy of the industrial ecosystem.
In addition, TechDual is conceived as an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between applied research and real-world use. To this end, it focuses on technological solutions with strong potential for industrial transfer and progressive adoption.
Modular hydrogen-powered UGV platform
In this context, the project addresses the design, development, and validation of a medium-sized unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). The platform features a modular and scalable architecture, allowing it to be adapted to different operational scenarios and future needs.
It also incorporates a hydrogen-based propulsion system, aligned with the objectives of energy transition and sustainability. This is complemented by secure storage tanks, lightweight armor, and advanced 5G/Edge communications, ensuring reliable operation even in complex or highly demanding technical environments.
WonderBits’ technological and digital contribution
WonderBits participates in the project together with the Automotive and Mobility Cluster of the Valencian Comunity (AVIA) and the companies AGFRA and TSE. This collaboration brings together industrial, technological, and systems integration capabilities.
Specifically, WonderBits’ contribution focuses on the development of the digital and artificial intelligence systems that underpin the platform. These systems enable mission planning, real-time monitoring, and advanced teleoperation of the UGV. In addition, they incorporate traceability, data security, and decision-support criteria—key elements for safe and efficient operation.
Technological validation and collaborative approach
As a result, the system reaches a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5, making it suitable for validation in relevant environments. This lays the groundwork for future phases of demonstration, scaling, and industrial transfer.
In addition, TechDual involves the participation of the clusters CIAC, CAAR, CEAGA and FaCyL, as well as the companies Mecanus Innovación, HCMF Inertim Research, Optare Solutions, and CYP. Thanks to this collaborative and multisectoral approach, the project strengthens its scope and potential impact.
Project funding
Finally, the project is funded by the Programme to Support Innov Bussiness Groupings (AEI)del Ministry of Industry and Tourism, under reference TECHDUAL AEI-010700-2025-3.
